According to The DaVinci Code and assorted New Agers, Jesus elopped with Mary Magdelaine, settling down in the south of France to raise their family that is currently populated by huxsters and conmen.

The south of France was the original Promised Land to which Moses was headed. He got lost in the desert for forty years and, being a man, never stopped to ask directions.

See you in Hell!

9000!!

Friday, December 30, 2005 | 0 Comments

Whoa! I didn't even notice that I had reached 9000 on my visitor counter. I am ashamed.

Hmmm...how to celebrate? Food is always a great way to celebrate, so tonight I think that I will be getting the new two pizza/two topping deal at Pizza Hut.

Mmmmm...Pizza Hut. I could never get sick of Pizza Hut. SSB used to work at Pizza Hut and would get to bring home any oops pizzas or ones that were undeliverable (i.e. - the person wouldn't pay). We had pizza everyday for over a year, so you know that I speak the truth when I say that Pizza Hut could never get old for me.

JD used to call it "Zippa Hut" when he was really little (1-2 years old). Then everyone at SSBs Pizza Hut started calling it that. JD also called Taco Bell "Go Bell" and McDonalds "My Donalds". He could spot any one of these restaurants a couple of miles away, through trees and buildings. It was like he was psychic or could locate by smell. He was kind of spooky when he was little.

Scott, I was hoping to have 10,000 by the end of this year, but I am certainly happy with what I have! Maybe it is the variety? The counter doesn't pick up my own visits so I know it's not me!!

Wendy A, ooo, requests!! Really? Politics? I always feel like I have rabies or something when I post about politics. And I imagine that people are backing away slowly clutching their loved ones when I post politics. You like my fervent mad rantings? Not too Howard Dean for you? Good to know!! :)

Five Weird Habits of Mine

Friday, December 30, 2005 | 0 Comments

I got tagged by AG at Abrasive Grace! My list turned into something more like a list of irrational fears rather than weird habits, but here it goes...

  1. I always check under the car and in the back seat before I get into my car at night. I also will not drive to where I was going if someone has been following me for too long. Hey, you never know!

  2. I would not allow a knife bigger than a steak knife in our house for the longest time. But that gets real old when you love to cook - try cutting potatoes with a 3" flimsy blade. I found a great chefs knife at a great deal and bought it. A chefs knife is my most feared knife because it is always used in horror movies. So I have it and I use it, but it can't be left out on the counter. It must be immediately cleaned and put away in the drawer after use. I just kind of see it as the Golden Gate Bridge - just tempting someone to jump.

  3. When I am trying to go somewhere, I usually have to run back into the house half a dozen times before finally getting myself together enough to go where I need to go. Sometimes I am lucky enough to remember that I have forgotten something while I'm still in front of the house, but many times I'm driving and have to circle back. I can imagine what my neighbors must think. On the bright side, I doubt we will ever be robbed - they would never know how long I will be gone!

  4. I don't like to waste time therefore I hate to be early and I am always trying to cram just a little more into the time that I have. "I've got five minutes before I need to be to my graduation ceremony. I have time to get all these flowers planted." This of course drives SSB nuts since he likes to be places a little early.

  5. I will take a huge amount of time making up my mind. I will debate my options, research what each has to offer, mull over my needs vs their features. I will try out the options if I can and then try them out again. I'm the person that you hate to be behind in a line when a choice needs to be made. I'm the person that you hate to take to a restaurant because it will take them an hour to make up their mind. I just have a fear of making a bad decision. And the more irreversable the decision, the more I debate and fuss. And even when I finally do make a decision, it isn't always final. I often change my mind moments after making a decision. When we went to sign papers on a new sedan, we actually left the dealership with a minivan instead. When we ordered our bed, I called them as soon as we got home to put it on hold because I decided in those twenty minutes from the store to home that I actually wanted another bed. After we put a deposit down on this house, I almost called to cancel because I had found another house I liked better. Why was I still looking for a house when we were already buying one? See how I drive my husband crazy?

I'm also awful about buying.
I read online comments (like epinions.com) and ask friends and family for recommendations as well.
When I was younger, things were simpler, because of financial limitations... I could only buy what I could afford.

My wife does the #3 thing as well. I have a game where I guess how mnay times she will come back in after leaving the first time.

December 31, 2005 9:06 AM

Blogger Sylvana said...

Sierrabella, yeah it gets worse when you have more options. But I think in the end it is worth it because you know that you got the best you could for yourself. EXCEPT- another habit of mine, sort of mentioned in #5 is that after I feel really confident and finally make a big decision, I often totally freak out in panic so sure that I have made some horrible mistake. The panic usually involves tears. This has got to be the most annoying habit for SSB.

Wendy A, I am late for several reasons. One is that I don't like to waste the time standing around once you have gotten to some place early. Another is that I can rarely get out of the house on the first shot. Also I am way too optimistic about how long it will take me to do something.

AG, SSB and I have found ways to cope with our differences. If I can get the menu while we are waiting to be seated, I can usually figure out what I will have before we even get a table. Or we go to a BUFFET! Yay! Buffets! If I bring something to do while we sit there early, I don't mind being early for things.

Shamus, so there are others. That is very reassuring. SSB plays the same game.

I have to admit that my hubby does #4 to me constantly. He's a "fiddler."

"Come on, love," I'll yell up the stairs, "we're going to be late for
the movie."

"Just a sec." I'll hear. And then I realize that he hasn't actually stopped what he's doing. He's "fiddling". I imagine he picked this up from his father who will decided to clean out the gutters 4 minutes before he's due to go out. At any rate, when I yell up the stairs, I realize that he is just going to keep playing guitar or piano WHILE WE'RE GOING TO BE LATE! ARRRRG!

In the #2 stakes, I have issues with cliffs and precipices rather than knives. My brain just kind of goes "how AWFUL would it be to fall?" and then my legs go, "LET'S FIND OUT!" and try to propel me over the edge, so guardrails are my friend. (I'm not mental, honestly, I have no deathwish at all.) I suppose this is rather the same as getting the idea to yell something particularly foul at a quiet moment in church. Once the thought is in your head...you can't quite get rid of it.

January 04, 2006 10:22 AM

Blogger Sylvana said...

Galetea, yeah, I would so clean out the gutters too. I'm surprised that I ever get out of the house at all.
That "throw yourself off a cliff" feeling is exactly what I am talking about. I also get that while driving. And I often find myself yelling embarrassing things when it gets quiet. Especially if it is a highly inappropriate place and time. I think it makes life more interesting (not that I do it on purpose or anything), but people tend to really think that you are mental.

Man, #5 is the story of my life. It takes me FOREVER to make decisions about things because I'm so afraid I'll make the wrong one. It's the primary reason I couldn't break up with my boyfriend for over a year. What if I made a mistake? (In hindsight, it was absolutely the right decision.)

Anyway, I've been working lately to sort of realize that with most things, it really doesn't matter what you do because ultimately everything will work out the way it needs to. That might not mean it's necessarily the way you WANT it to, but you just have to be ready to roll with it...

January 05, 2006 1:48 PM

Blogger Douglas Cootey said...

#4 is my fave. LOL I have the same problem. Always fitting 4 into 3. Why be early when you can squeeze in a new project!? I ended up creating an über satchel to fight off boredom. It's like Dr. Who's Tardis. I cram so many things in it that nobody in my family ever wants to carry it for me. BUT! I am never bored if I am early. ;)

ORF, naw, I'm too much of a control freak to roll with it. I metioned that in my "100 Things About Me" list (in my sidebar). If I feel that I can make a difference by my decisions, well, then I will agonize over making that decision.

There are, however many times that I get an overwhelming feeling about something and just do it no matter how crazy or improbable it seems. And THOSE decisions ALWAYS work out really well! SSB has learned over the years to just run with those crazy ideas, too.

Doug, hey, welcome to my blog! Another problem I have getting out of the house or being on time is that I can only seem to remember the things that I need to get done when I am under extreme time constraints or I'm trying to get to sleep. under either of these situations all the things that I need to do come flooding at me and they are usually things that I have forgotten for so long that they are long overdue and desperately need to be done RIGHT NOW!

Speaking of über satchels, I tend to carry everything but the kitchen sink with me. Need a pen, I have one. Need a spoon, I have one. Need a stapler, I have one. Need a tent, I have one. But the stachel needs to be something that I can attach to me because otherwise I will leave it behind. My husband follows me so that when I set my keys or bag down (as I inevitably will) he will pick it up for me. As we are heading out to the car and I suddenly panic, "Oh No! I lost my keys!!" He will heroically pull them out of his pocket. I don't know what I would do without him!

Sy: [after reading something she wrote on her blog to SSB to get his opinion] Maybe I should add a, er, what's it, an expletive in front of "Seinfeldian".

SSB:??

Sy: You know, something to describe it.

SSB: An expletive is a swear word.

Sy: Oh, an adjective, I mean. But I guess a swear word would work too.

Mall Santas Are Evil

Tuesday, December 27, 2005 | 0 Comments

Shamus O'Drunkahan did a post a little while ago about Bad Santas. Here is my own run in with a bad Santa. This man is clearly thinking about which rifle to use on the tower. I, on the other hand, am:

A) giving one of my signature cheesy smiles for the camera.

B) asking "Are you serious?"

C) pleading "Get me away from this guy. He smells like urine and stale Cheetos."

D) reaching into my coat for a gun to take this guy out and complete my mission.

We normally don't decorate for Christmas for many reasons; three of which are 1) we are cheap, 2) we are lazy, and 3) we usually go up to my parents' house for Christmas anyway so let them decorate!

Well, due to special circumstances we didn't go to my parents' house this year. And despite all the stuff that has been going on we are determined to have a happy Christmas, DAMN IT!!

SSB had already started decorating a couple weeks ago for some strange reason and it was warm out the day before Christmas so we put up lights on the house- blue and white. Then we went to the local Shopko to get chocolate for Christmas morning. And we picked up more decorations- 60% off!! The above is a picture of what we did with our haul.

SSB and I stayed up late Christmas Eve watching movies and drinking Ballatore Gran Spumante. We buy a few bottles of this and let it sit in the back of our fridge for a year or two before drinking it. The refrigerator aging mellows it out and makes it the best damn wine that I have ever drank! YUMMY! We drink it on special occasions such as New Year and our anniversary. I could drink it all the time, but it really needs to age to be that enjoyable and I just don't have a wine cellar to work all that wine.

We got a 20" inch TV for JD. He completely was not expecting that. At first he was hesitant about it, not understanding how it was a good thing since we can't get reception worth shit. But ever since we hooked up the Play Station that our friend had given to us (complete with a bunch of games) he has been coming down from his room every hour or so demanding a hug because he is so happy.

I got SSB the latest Simpson DVD, of course.

SSB got me these fabulicious boots!

Along with all the cookies that I made last night for us to gorge ourselves on today, I made a batch of dog biscuits. They LOVE them!!

Zen is very fussy about what he eats so we gave him Pounce Baste'mms for Christmas. He gets all drooly as soon as he hears the bag crinkle. He's loving the special treatment, but I don't care if it is Christmas and he has cancer - he can still go lick his ass in the other room!!
