Give the Finger Back to Bush

Thursday, September 08, 2005 | 0 Comments

MoveOn.org has started a new petition in which you can tell Bush to quit passing the blame and take responsibility for the mess in the Gulf States. I think the last one I participated in was the public broadcasting bill. And look what happened with that! Yay! Public broadcasting! Maybe this will make a difference as well. Click on Bush giving the finger to give it back to him. Below is the note that I sent him.

Dear President Bush,

In a hierarchy of power, when catastrophic failure of procedure occurs, such as we have witnessed in the Hurrican Katrina disaster, it is due to lack of leadership and clarity from those on the upper end of that hierarchy. That would be you, Mr. President. We have elected officials for leadership. We have every right to expect that from them. You promised that to the American people, yet you failed to deliver on that promise. You were not there to lead.

In the immediate days after Katrina, we saw the best of America as millions of people stepped forward to offer help. Meanwhile, your administration failed at its most important job: keeping America safe. The federal effort was too little, too late. You promised that you could keep America safe. You failed to deliver on that promise. You did not keep America safe.

People in a such a huge disaster need to know that the country is behind them, leadership is there, and things will be taken care of. But instead, Mr. President, you have chosen to lay yet another burden on these already over-burdened victims by laying the blame on them. You promised to be a "compassionate conservative". You have failed to deliver on that promise. A compassionate person would not blame the victim; you did not show compassion.

You need to start taking responsibility for your part in this catastrophic failure, stop blaming the victims, and get to work helping them.

Sincerely,

Sylvana

Dear Sylvana,

This is an automated response. Mr. President never reads his emails. He never watches TV or listens to the radio. Of course reading the newspapers is out of the question - reading is a very mind-consuming process. Sending your thoughts drawn in a comic would be the best way for Mr. President to grasp them. Mail them at his usual address: His ranch.

Thank you.

I have to agree with Dr. Who. Anything of that length should be sent to Laura Bush. She is the one who actually reads.
