New Toy
Friday, February 09, 2007 | 0 Comments
She was talking about a computer program that they had just installed that works like Tivo. Awesome. She said that she knew that SSB and I would appreciate the geekiness of it.
She's so right. HUGE GEEK!
Now I'd like to show you my new toy, courtesy of a button I found on Laurie's blog:

ONLINE KARAOKE!!!! Holy crap! I'm so there!
*(her husband, the AP guy at work, and our bowling partner. I'm calling him Joe because he reminds me a little of the husband on Medium)

Oh my gourd. I have no time to in-depth into this right now before I go to work, but this is definitely going to be well-explored this weekend. Online Kara-O-Ke: the future is NOW.

The Doc, I'm so psyched!
Shannon, we should have gone karaoke when we were in Milwaukee!! I guess we sort of did if you count the big screen 80s special.
Laurie, I've been waiting for something like this for A WHILE!! TANKS!!
Josh, welcome to my blog! I know plenty of male heterosexuals that karaoke. You may have something with the dignity thing, but I think worrying too much about your dignity isn't much fun ;)
BTW - I tried to comment on your blog and that stupid word verification thing wouldn't let me. - February 09, 2007 8:24 PM

Syl: That confuses you? See, back in the days before this "online karaoke" stuff you speak of, us KJs had CD+G discs with "songs" on 'em. Folks would request songs and...
you get the idea. - February 15, 2007 5:31 PM

Derek, oh, I never knew the techy part of karaoke. The karaoke that I have done, at bars and my brother's party, was all preloaded on a computer. I feel so new-school.

Since I have an injury to be wary of, I am starting off slow and working my way up. I am starting by working 100 calories (~1 mile) a day for a couple of weeks. I want to be up to 500 calories (~5 miles) a day by my birthday.
Oddly enough, the day I started, I caught Oprah on late night. She was doing a show on aged beauties. There was a 70 year old that was more fit and active than me! The main theme was that the women stayed young by taking care of themselves mentally as well physically. I want to look and feel as good as they did when I'm their age (hell, even at my age!), so there is some extra motivation for me. And just like them, I'm doing it for me.

And this is a prime time of the year to be exercising. All the cool kids are doin' it. - February 07, 2007 3:17 PM

People tell me I look ten years younger than my true age. I chalk it up to exercise and staying out of the sun. So you go girl!

OldRoses, most people think I am ten years younger than I actually am, but every once in awhile I'll meet a person who mistakes me for being in my early 20s. Such nice, nice people.

We tried putting booties on his feet, but they will not stay on his feet. We may have to break out the training pads or diapers for a few days.
We are spending the weekend holed up with hot cocoa, a pile of movies, and of course, THE SUPER BOWL! And a historic one at that.
Plus, the news that Brett Favre will be serving The Packers another season is enough to keep everyone in Wisconsin warm for quite a while!

Gosh, Superbowl???? I don't even know who is playing. What a bad American I have become.
We just finished the "superbowl" of the cricket world. That was kinda fun for a change. Missed the half time show.
Hope it warms up for you. I have heard your winters have been brutal. - February 05, 2007 2:25 PM

SSB, what about Dungy-Lovie?
Shamus, we almost got him the Nike ones, too. But he already gets laughed at, so we saved ourselves the money.
Wendy, I learned about cricket from a Bollywood movie "Lagaan". I recommend it!
Steven, at least we have snow this time. I hate it when it gets cold and there is no snow. What's the point?
OldRoses, it was -20F here and Sam's Club was PACKED Saturday. Definitely Super Bowl weekend! - February 06, 2007 1:26 AM

1.Name a book that you want to share so much that you keep giving away copies:
When my grandma died, my dad took it really hard. He had always been very close to her. He felt she was one of the very few that understood him and I'm pretty sure that she was the only person in the whole world that he actually trusted. She had died in his hands while saying her last words which made it even harder on him. Someone recommended to me the book "Embraced by the Light" to help ease my grief over her death. It was written by a woman who had supposedly died and came back. The way she explains what life is about and what happens when you die made a lot of sense to me and made death, and life, a lot easier to take. I gave a copy to my dad. He loved it too. It really helped him with his grief and it is one of his most treasured books now.
2. Name a piece of music that changed the way you listen to music:
The Cure: Staring at the Sea Singles. I used to kind of think of the music as being background for the lyrics, but with this album I heard the story in the music.
3. Name a film you can watch again and again without fatigue:
The Nightmare Before Christmas - duh! I used to watch that movie EVERY DAY! I love it so much that I put the whole movie on audio tape so that I could listen to it in the car. I have seen it over 200 times.
BEST.MOVIE.EVER.
4. Name a performer for whom you suspend of all disbelief:
To tell you the truth, I'm not quite sure what this means, but my answer is Tori Amos. She's the greatest, so SHUT UP!
5. Name a work of art you'd like to live with:
Most pieces from Van Gogh. He rocks!! My world is much like most of his art: full of color, texture, emotion, light, and large sweeping motions.
6. Name a work of fiction which has penetrated your real life:
IT by Stephen King. I was reading it one summer and all these really weird, scary things started to happen to me. The further I got in the book, the weirder and scarier things got in my life. I got to the second to the last chapter and had to stop reading the book because the weirdness had become too scary to continue. Once I quit reading the book, it all stopped. I'm afraid to ever finish it. That book is evil.
He's the best writer EVER!
7. Name a punch line that always makes you laugh:
"Again". It's just so subtle, yet hilarious. "Bill got his hand stuck in the toilet, again."

TRUE STORY: I love "The Stand " by Stephen King and while I was dating my wife, I told her that she needed to read it. I had two copies, so I gave her one and I decided to read it again with her.
During the time we were reading it, we both got so sick. Noses running, coughing, etc. It was almost like we caught the Super Flu.
Needless to say, it freaked both of us out. - January 30, 2007 1:51 PM

Shannon, what I really love about that punchline is that it can make things funny that are normally not funny.
SSB, my mom can be so inconsiderate.
Tayster, I think that he has a way of tapping into your psyche so deeply that he can actually affect your real life. Now THAT'S a GREAT (and SCARY) writer! - February 02, 2007 9:48 PM

Sy: All my blankets came off me! Are you taking my blankets? [tugging blankets]
SSB: You're taking mine!
Sy: No, you took mine. See? [showing how SSB has three corners of the blanket while Sy has but one]
SSB: Well, something's not right. You took my sheet.
Sy: [giggling] I don't give a sheet. [giggling more] I take a sheet!
SSB: There! I got my sheet straightened out. [giggling]
Sy: I'm really glad you got your sheet together. [much more giggling ensued]

Sunday, January 21, 2007 | 0 Comments
My newest renter is running me ragged and driving me NUTS! I'm about to run away and hide from her for a couple of weeks. She keeps coming up with new ideas on how to get money from us. SSB says, "Doesn't she know that she's supposed to pay us?"
Good news is that we now have all three places rented. HU-FRICKIN-RAY!!!!

Shamus, click the link in my post, then click "2007" on the left and "The Super" is the first show on the page. This quote came from the last act on the show.
SSB, I was going to post about our initiation into landlording, but that's a LONG story! Maybe some day when I have more time.
Shannon, I know that it is really popular to criminalize landlords, but I think that most start out nice and helpful and just get grisled by all the crap the renters throw at them. - January 24, 2007 7:35 AM

My ex wanted to buy a rental property. I refused because he wouldn't spend any money to keep our house in good repair. Can you imagine the results of him refusing to do repairs for tenants????? We would have been in court every other week!

OldRoses, I've never been taken to court by any of my renters, but I sure have taken more than a few of them to court! They never show up, so I always win. Not that I wouldn't have won anyway.
